Sveti Stefan

Five kilometers southward from Budva, there is another famous landmark of Montenegro — Sveti Stefan island. This small piece of land, connected with the shore by a narrow tombolo, built up with medieval houses with red-tiled roofs. In the neighborhood, there is a magnificent Miločer park, hotels, and restaurants. At the time of the Venetian Republic, this place was an important trade and transport center. Today’s Sveti Stefan island is a fashionable 5-star hotel town, visited by business people and celebrities.

You can stay there or just walk across ancient streets after paying no more than 20 euros for entrance. Among the special guests of Sveti Stefan, there are Sophie Lauren, Sylvester Stallone, Elizabeth Taylor, Pamela Anderson… Beckham family visits the island time after time, and once Yuri Gagarin has been there. The island has a charming medieval aura and high-class hotel service. Sveti Stefan is an island of the top restaurants and fashionable villas with swimming pools. The apartments are furnished plainly but exquisitely — in traditional Balkan style, with natural stone and precious wood finishes.

The mainland of Sveti Stefan is famous for picturesque beaches with sand and fine pink pebbles. The most famous ones are the royal beaches, where the monarchs of Montenegro used to rest. A mountain with an ancient temple and observation deck rises above the town. You can walk up the mountain or go there by car. Praskvica Monastery is situated nearby. You can go further up from it on the stairs, built by a Russian acolyte. A fabulous shore and island view opens from both tops. The neighborhood of Sveti Stefan is buried in verdure of olive groves. These quiet places contrast with the noise of populous sea resorts.

The hiking trail starts in Budva, on the quay, passes through two tunnels before and after Becici, then goes across Rafailovici, Przno, and Milocer. Such a hiking tour to Sveti Stefan allows you to become closely acquainted with Budvan Riviera while breathing the fresh sea air and build up in health. Your way will pass by multiple beaches, cafes, and restaurants to have a rest. If you prefer road tripping, you can take a taxi or rent a car.
